My 15 Reasons to go to the Oley Conference

Are you familiar with the Oley Foundation?  If not, and you rely on nutrition support in any way, they’re a great organization to get to know. I love the way they state who they are on their website, “…the Oley Foundation is a national, independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that strives to enrich the lives of patients dependent on home intravenous nutrition (parenteral) and tube feeding (enteral) through education, advocacy, and networking.”  Learn more about Oley here.

They put on several conferences throughout the year, but their big annual one is the hot topic for discussion today.  While I’ve only been to one conference in 2016, it was absolutely life changing and I cannot wait for this summer’s conference in Memphis, Tennessee.  Here are my top fifteen reasons you should go to the Oley Annual Conference this June.Print Continue reading “My 15 Reasons to go to the Oley Conference”

Choices : Doctors

Who’s ready for a new series of posts?

Great, me too!

Over the next few weeks I’m going to share about the many choices that come with being chronically ill and some more specific to those of us on TPN and/or tube feeds.

My friend Joey, the manager at our local grocery store, gave me permission to take photos in his store.  I’ve had so much fun taking photos for my blog, and when it came to the photos to illustrate “choices,” what better place than the grocery store?  There are SO many options.  So although they don’t relate directly, I think the message is clear, endless choices!

Who knew there were so many types of canned tomatoes?

Why don’t we just start big today and talk about the choices that come with choosing our doctors?  Here are a few of the questions I find me asking myself to make sure I’m getting the best care possible. Continue reading “Choices : Doctors”

Showering with a Central Line

Oh the joys of showering with a central line… Let’s talk about that!

I’ve had several people ask me about the showering method I’ve come to love the most over the years.  It’s a bit tricky to answer, because I’ve had all types of lines.  So I thought I’d share my tips to showering with all of them!

P.S. The last one is my top fave and current method, so stick around. Continue reading “Showering with a Central Line”

Our Wedding Day!

Ding ding ding!  Wedding day picture and story time!

I have so been looking forward to writing this.  Any reason to go through the photos and flip through the memories in my head from this day is a good enough reason for me!

I left you all last week with our hospital engagement story.  As you might have assumed, there was a lot of planning that happened between then and our wedding day later that October.  But I’m just so excited to share about the actual day, that I’m skipping all of that for now!

The day started with us getting ready with our sweet friends.  Anthony and his friends got ready in a cabin that was on the lake we got married at.  While I got ready at the venue!  Anthony decided it would be silly to have the photographer with him because he was, “only going to take five minutes!”

Here are some shots of us getting ready that morning.  Just try your best to imagine the best mix of TLC, Shania Twain, and T-Pain songs playing in the background!

Organization Station!

Let’s talk organization!

There are so many ways to organize the things in our lives, and it’s so nice to finally get to a place where you love the way your things are situated in your home.

When it comes to my TPN and tube supplies, I wouldn’t say I’m 100% satisfied with the way they are organized right now.  But I will say that I am much closer to liking the role they play in my living space than I have been in the past.

I used to have a tall set of plastic drawers in my room.  While it works, I am very picky about the aesthetic of my surroundings.  I didn’t love the constant reminder of the medical supply section in my room.  These might be a perfect solution to your organization though!  Or perhaps you have a big walk-in closet that the tower of drawers could fit into and still be hidden.  I’m unable to find the exact tower of drawers I had, but these are very similar.

I’d also love to share with you how I currently have my supplies set up.  They’re much more discrete and hidden so that they aren’t in my face all day every day.
